Sweet Mandy

Amanda “Mandy” Leigh Moore was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on April 10, 1984. She is the only daughter of Stacey, a former newspaper reporter and Don Moore, a pilot for American Airlines. She's of Irish, English, and Cherokee Indian descent. She has two brothers, Scott and Kyle. She grew up in Altamonte Springs, Florida, outside of Orlando. After seeing the musical “Oklahoma!”, she decided that she wanted to pursue a career in singing. As a child, she performed the National Anthem at several athletic events around her hometown of Orlando, Florida, and became known as the “National Anthem girl”. At her age of 14, while she was recording in a studio in Orlando, a Fed-Ex worker who happened to be passing through heard her and was interested in her talent. He happened to know someone at Sony as well. Mandy worked on cutting a demo and shortly thereafter signed a record deal with Sony Music. Her first album “So Real” was released in 1999. The album reached thirty-one on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart, and was certified platinum in the U.S. Mandy reached mainstream at a younger age than Christina, Jessica and Britney though record sales are not up in the ranks of the said artists. She did five studio albums such as So Real, I Wanna Be with You, Mandy Moore, Coverage, and her latest Wild Hope.

Mandy is not only a singer but also an actress. She hosted a half-hour MTV talk show, The Mandy Moore Show, which resumed in the summer of 2001 under the title of Mandy. She had her first small role as the mean and popular cheerleader Lana Thomas opposite actresses Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews in the film The Princess Diaries. In 2002, she had her first starring role in a major feature film in A Walk to Remember, which co-starred Shane West. The film was moderately successful, establishing Mandy's status as lead actress. Although the film received negative reviews, Mandy received several positive notices for her performance. As a matter of fact, she won an award for “Breakthrough Female Performance” in MTV Movie Awards. She appeared in several films and her latest include Southland Tales and Dedication. She also appeared in some television series. She has modeled for Penshoppe in the Philippines, Coach handbbags in Japan, and was a spokesperson of Neutrogena. She was also a spokesperson for the Youth Programs of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She considers herself spiritual, and has said that she does not think of herself as distinctly Catholic nor Christian. Sexy and hot Mandy wants to be a news reporter, but her biggest dream is to perform on Broadway someday.
